Recent foodstuffs

Yum, yum, croquettes! K, I think I'm seriously obsessed with any food that comes with a dip and can be eaten with the fingers.

(Broccoli-millet croquettes with white bean aioli from the Veganomicon)

Then I had to try my hand at making some fake meatstuffs, 'cause there's something just so empowering about that, ne? And having seitan in the freezer is just a nice feeling.

The spices are so pretty I could never have planned or expected them to be as incredibly universally exquisite as they are right there. And yeah, I added fennel 'cause these are Italian sausages, not no sissy lame-boy regular saussices.

Finished sausage! There was another one but I ated it real quick, since the foil broke on it and it was all misshapen and puffy and ummm... smelling really good. Thank you Julie Hasson!

And finally, the least sexiest of all the photos and yet so the tastiest -- I made my first baba ganouj yesterday and it was to DIE FOR. I squeezed out all the stringy bits with my hand and squished it and squished (with my clean hand) until it was perfectly whippedy smooth, and then I mixed in the lemon/tahini/salt&pepper/garlic/parsley and then I toasted up some garlicky pita chips and then I had a dinner of awesome simplicity.
(moral: I love eggplant. lots!)

Baba ganouj is seriously, like, totally, like one of the best foods ever! (No, but really.) The little falafel stand next to my apartment in Germany made the best BG, and their falafels were unbelievable. Then again, I haven't met a Turkish entree that I didn't like...

Needless to say, dinner at your house sounds like a tasty event!

HOLY Croquettes!!! Also--used to work at a middle eastern restaurant, wish I could share with you all of the "creative" ways people tried to pronounce babaganouj.

Mmmm. I love croquettes! And I just bought some millet so I can make those ones specifically. They look delish!

PITA CHIPS! I am in love with pita chips. I make them so often my family is almost getting sick of them. Yesterday my mom got 15 bags of absolutely free pita because it was expiring the next day, so I told her I'd make loads of pita chips, tee hee.

monika -- total concurrance, I love love LOVE turkish food, and I still find it pretty gleeful to remember going out for falafal with a vegetarian-considering-veganism and getting to say that Yes! A falafal pita is entirely vegan if you don't get yogurt on it. He seemed intrigued. :D

jessie -- oh, I'd love to hear the funny pronounciations! I say it "baa-baa ga-NOOSH". Are there people who say "Ga-NOOJ" then? hee hee

romina -- you can never have too many pita chips! they like revolutionized my idea of snacking, cause I always have pita in the freezer but I never want to buy a bag of chips. Hence, 10 minutes in the oven and I've got something nommy to dip with!

megan -- I dunno if this would wow everyone in the world, I left out the olive oil and I like to be able to taste the eggplant through all the ingredients, but I liked it better than the heavier kinds, for sure!

paulina -- thanks! I love forming croquettes, and I also love pink. ^^

ruby red - oh, you have to try baba ganouj! it's amazing stuff. and yeah, spices are incredible!

vegan_noodle -- thanks, I hope the banner isn't too hard to read, then!

ashasarala - haha, sausage-y sausages are from twisting the foil really tightly. It's totally 100% my favourite part of making seitan, it's like playing with playdoh all over again. :D

ooohhh, me too....to the little foods with dipping sauces, eggplant, and giddy vegan pride in not having to bring home the bacon. I like the blog too by the way.
