*cough cough*

I've been sooooo sick this week. Fever, headache, chills, nausea, all that stuff. Plus I think the mineral spirits I use to thin my oil paint have been making everything twice as bad.... X_X

But uh.... you'd think I would stay in bed or something, and eat white rice (as sick food goes my roommate swears by vegetable broth with little pasta stars - kinda tempting, actually!)

But no. No, I've been cooped up and damned if my deadened tastebuds won't appreciate the only thing I can do to pass the time (reading is out due to double vision, ha ha ha *SIGH*)

The black bean burgers (oh yeah, everything in this post in Veganomicon. For the record) actually hit the spot! It was one of those better stomach days, and it was nice to get something classic into me. I think that's what the flavour of these are - they won't smack you in the face with anything distinctive, but I actually don't like when veggie burgers taste like hemp or rice or almonds. These taste like... burger!

Chickpea noodle soup = MAGIC SOUP

I had NO appetite that day. I have no idea what possessed me to make soup. But I did make it, and I took one bite and it was like my mom had wrapped a blanket around my shoulders.... amazing stuff.

The mushroom and spinach strata was okay. I don't think it was substantial enough for a dinner and I think I may have burned something or not used enough bread (the parts with bread were pretty good). Everything was kinda tasting bitter to me that day anyway. *shrug*

And this morning I made the chocolate-hazelnut biscotti (with almonds instead), for a friend teaching english in Korea. Right now she's helping clean up after the December 6th oil spill... washing the shore one pebble at a time. (I think she definitely needs chocolate in the mail, yes?)

K, I should probably go make some plain rice now... or soup with pasta stars... I am eyeing the chipotle black bean recipe...... ahhhhhhhh!!!

Even when you're sick as a dog, you eat better than when I'm at my best and have all the time in the world. You win.

So sorry you are feeling sick!! Hope you get better soon. You should save at least one of those biscotti for yourself, maybe it will help :-) At least you're still eating really well...

What a coincidence, I was planning on making some black bean burgies this weekend. I haven't tried V-con's yet, but I'm gonna be making a recipe my mum always made that's sooooo delicious. Aren't they the greatest things?

The soup looks so warm and soothing. Good thing you're taking care of yourself! Everyone seems to be getting so sick lately. I better watch out 'cause whenever I catch something it always seems to affect me 10-fold. :-/

To answer your question, there are different ways of making sour dough starter. Some seem more complicated than others. I'm not sure why people use them. Maybe the taste is stronger/different. The starter I use really is just one cup of water and one cup of whole wheat and it does the trick just fine! :)

Get better soon, ya hear?

That Chickpea-Noodle Soup is the best cure-all I know! I think it's the mixture of miso and comfort food that does the trick. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh no! Please feel better pronto!

But oh my goodness, you cooked all that when you were sick?!?! I am WAY beyond impressed! I don't even have enough motivation to cook so much when I'm healthy! The chickpea noodle soup looks especially yummy; I've been eyeing that recipe for a while.

I hope you get well soon. It can't be too fun not being able to enjoy your food. =( But everything you made looks like it's bursting with enough flavor for some of it to get through to your stubborn taste buds!

Mmm... burger & chickpea noodle soup sound like the perfect comfort food for anyone who is sick.

Your review of the chickpea soup is probably the best recipe review I've heard. Soup that feels motherly and warm? What more could a sick vegan ask for?!

Hope you get better real soon!

You're crazy, get back in bed and stay there! If you cook this much when you're sick, I can only image what you're capable of when well! Fell better soon!

Oh, no, don't be sick! I command you to stop it right now! :) Please feel better. At any rate, it seems like you're feeding yourself really well, so you should be healed in no time.

That burger! Wow! That's all I can say. And the bun looks all hearty and toasted and delish.

I really want to make some Chickpea Noodle Soup, too. It seems like the perfect comfort food, and soba noodles are just so darn good.

Those biscotti look like they'd be the perfect addition to my soy latte breaks, mmm. Wanna seal one in an envelope and send it my way?
