I <3 Chickpeas (no really, I do!)

Well, Liz is a happy vegan - I finally picked up Vegan with a Vengeance yesterday (it was between that and Refresh, or maybe Heaven's Banquet, but hey, it's Isa ramblings we're talking about here, and I needed that recipe for the raspberry blondies). And the muffin recipes! There's so many! Very happy vegan. :D

I thought I'd try the Hijiki-Salad Sammiches first, since I didn't have hijiki, but I had nori..... thus the chickpea maki-wraps above. Muy tasty! It's beyond simple, I just mashed the chicks with nayonnaise, salt, pepper, cider vinegar, tabasco and celery seed, then I spread it on toasted nori and rolled it up with carrots, cucumber, lettuce, red onion and sunflower seeds. Oh, and Braggs to dip, of course.

Hey, look, it's thematically relevent! Peanut-Sesame Hummus from ED&BV. It's good, especially with lots of crushed peanuts swirled in.

Also..... Chickpea Cutlets?
I am so sorry for having doubted you! You taste delicious the next day, as does that addictive Mustard Sauce, I just have to remember not to form you into the shape of meat lest I get weirded out by it. (my very good vegetarian friend Ben-sen just about busted a gut laughing when I told him I'd made a shmancy fancy dinner with roasted potatoes and cutlets and everything. He also polished off the leftovers and declared them "creepy yet delicious")

Oh yes, Vegan with a Vengeance is a must-have... Some days of the week I like it even more than Veganomicon!

I've never sushi-type sammiches or vegetable rolls or anything, but I was very tempted to buy my own bamboo rolling mat at the grocery store yesterday. I resisted temptation, though! Braggs is awesome.

Your hummus looks so good! I really like the idea of a peanutty hummus. Mmm.

Hey, in every item of your chickpea theme, the chickpeas are mashed, not whole! Just a totally random observation...

I love chickpeas too! Maybe we should start a fan club ;o).

And I understand completely about needing that raspberry blondie recipe... I saw the pictures of those blondies on Vegan Noodle's blog, and they must be the most scrumptious-looking things I've ever seen!

Ruby Red, you should check the dollar store first for bamboo rolling mats - sometimes they sell placemats that are pretty much IDENTICAL to real rolling mats, and for a dollar! you can't go wrong!

ooh, totally right on the not having whole chickpeas... I think I really like mashing stuff. :D

Cakespy, I'm with you there! creepiness in food is almost like.... umami. sort of. haha, I'm totally weird.

ChocCV, dude, yes, fanclub! We could have membership cards and get discounts... on chickpeas. woo!

also -- cutest name for chickpeas ever? CECIs. (pronounced CHEH-chee). sooooo cute.

Wow!!! Those sammiches look delicious. Nice improvisation with the Nori. =) I could've sworn it was sushi.

Chickpeas are sooo addictive. They are by far my favourite legume, they're so versatile and yummy.

I've been dying to try that Peanut Hummus but I have a family member who is allergic to peanuts so I'll have to do it in secret... somehow I will taste it!

Oh I love your idea of chickpea maki rolls!! My hubby will love that since he is afraid of carbs and never wants rice in his sushi.

And yay for getting VWAV!! Definitely make those raspberry blondies, they are so amazing. Oh, and make the seitan stroganoff (there are tons of others of course, but that's the most recent one I made from it).

So what shape will you make your cutlets in?

Have a great weekend!!

I have yet to meet anyone who isn't a fan of chickpeas, but all the same, I have to say that I adore them too! Plus, they have the most awesome name... In Japanese, it's hyokomame, which literally translates to "chicken beans." I find that somehow so endearing...!
